Calling at 60
Life is a fair level-playing field. It gives a calling to everyone of us. By the twenties, one receives the calling. It could be early in the teens also. The calling is distinct, but sometimes, it might be distracted by too much noise. But, for sure, it calls. The call is a passion to pursue your dream.
As it is written, many are called, few are chosen and only a very few succeed. A large majority of us miss because of worldly compulsion, or we listened to our head, or were not strong enough to follow our heart.
If you have followed, chances are that by the 30s, we might have been tested for perseverance and failed.
Twenties give us strength physically and mentally. It gives us lots of flexibility. It gives us immense satisfaction to have followed our passion and calling.
However, if you missed this, don’t worry. Life provides another opportunity. At 60.
Sixties is when one has completed all earthly obligations, and post retirement, another chance to listen to the calling.
But, this time, unfortunately, the advantages of physical and mental fitness may not be there. Body and mind may not cooperate with heart.
So, what can be done? If you are the one who missed the calling in twenties and are hopeful of the calling again, here is a to-do list:
1) Keep your body and mind fit, energetic and active. Pursue activities that engage body and mind, other than the professional activities. It could be learning a new language, even if you are practising accounting.
2) Keep your passion intact by allocating a ‘me-time’ once a week.
3) Prepare yourself for a career that is not dictated by any compulsion.
4) Ignore those who distract. It could be your own family.
But this is no guarantee for pursuit and success. What happened in the twenties may repeat again. However, this time, you will feel satisfied because you were determinate, ready to listen and pursue.
Remember, in life, one regrets about what one didn’t do rather than what we did either wrongly, foolishly…
So pursue your Calling!
